MISSION STATEMENT
To Provide the public with a safe, humane and secure environment with
professional team oriented staff working to reduce the rate of
recidivism while respecting the rights and dignity of all.
INMATE MAIL
Inmates receive
regularly delivered mail on all dates operated by the US Postal
Service. All mail received at the Van Buren County Jail is opened and
inspected for contraband. To send mail to an inmate at this facility,
use the following format:

all incoming mail must:
1. Be on a postcard purchased from the post office.
2. The stamp must be embedded in the paper, unless it is
attorney mail.
3. Friends and family may send pictures and money orders, but it
must be noted on the outside of the envelope. Otherwise, it would
be returned to sender.
INMATE VISITATION
- As of August 8, 2012, visitors
will no longer be allowed to visit on the
second floor of the jail.

Monday- 8:00am -10:00am
Tuesday 8:00am -10:00am
Wednesday-Friday 8:00am-noon, then 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Saturday and Sunday 8:00am - 6:00pm.

1). All visits must be scheduled 24 hours in advance. Click

2). The duration of each visit is 20 minutes.
3). No more than 2 visitors present for each visit.
4). All visits are recorded and subject to electronic monitoring by
the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
5). Every visitor must show up at least 10 minutes prior to your
scheduled visit and no more than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled
visit. Visitors arriving late will only
receive the balance of the remaining visiting time, or may not be
allowed to visit, depending on the circumstances.
6). No NUDITY, provocative clothing, or tight fitting clothing will
be allowed during the visit.
7). Only those scheduled to visit will be allowed in the visitation
area. During a visit, the visitor is required to remain at the
visitation booth. If the visitor leaves the visitation booth, then
the visit will be terminated.
8). Visitors appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
will not be permitted into the video visitation area and their visit
will be cancelled.
9). Visitors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
10). Use of cell phones or any other electronic devices are
prohibited.
11). Loud talking, excessive emotionalism, or any type of disruptive
behavior will not be permitted.
12). Do not damage or deface the visitation equipment. If you damage
or deface the equipment, you could be prosecuted.
13). If you experience a problem with the audio or video reception
during your visit, you are required to notify the visitation staff
immediately.

ITEMS ALLOWED
FOR INMATES

Cash can be deposited into an inmate’s account through
the kiosk in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office, by the internet by
going to
www.inmatedeposits.com or by calling toll free to 866-345-1884.
There is a fee for all three services. Money orders will be accepted
via mail or in person.

prescriptions are accepted after review/verification by medical staff.

Work release
inmates may have 1 set of clean clothing dropped off.

Inmates scheduled
for Jury Trial may have clothing dropped off for wear during trial.
DONATED ITEMS
Any
person may donate appropriate books and or magazines to the Van Buren
County Jail. Inmates having books or magazines dropped off must
remember that these items are donated to the Jail Library and will
remain property of the Van Buren County Jail.

YEAR-END REPORT - CORRECTIONS
Jail Operations
In 2011 the Van Buren County Jail was inspected by the Michigan
Department of Corrections – County Jail Services Unit. This inspection
resulted in Van Buren County being awarded its seventh consecutive 100%
compliance award.
The
Corrections Division was able to operate within budget and secured funds
to enhance jail operations and maintain the jail population at
manageable levels.

Alternative Work Program
The Alternative Work Program (WAP) is in its 26th year of serving Van
Buren County communities and governmental units. In addition to
providing needed services to Van Buren residents, the AWP provides
another method to reduce the jail population.
Court Transport Officers
1 full time and 1 part time Court Transport Officers provide service to
the Corrections Division. These officers ensure the appearance of
scheduled court proceedings for inmates within the facility. Transport
officers allows the Uniform Response Division to focus on criminal calls
for service.
