Date and Time: September
27, 2009 at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Location: Incident began at
the intersection of M-51 Highway at Red Arrow Highway located in Paw Paw
Township.
Suspect Arrested: 37 year
old Lawrence man (name withheld pending arraignment in Paw Paw district court).
Suspect vehicle information:
1998 Saturn passenger car.
Information: Sheriff
Dale R. Gribler reports that two plain clothes deputies in an unmarked police
unit noted at the intersection of M-51 and Red Arrow highway two stopped
vehicles at this location.
As the deputies came up these two vehicles noted was a
verbal altercation taking place between the drivers of both these cars.
Stopping to check the situation, the green Saturn sped off from the scene
westbound on Red Arrow. Deputies, speaking with the other operator, he was
asked what was taking place between he and the other driver to which he stated,
the driver of the green Saturn pulled a gun on him.
With this information, Deputies proceeded to attempted
contact with this individual, as marked patrol units were called to assist with
the same. The plain clothes deputies noted the suspect passing cars on double
yellow lines, proceeding through stop signs and travelling in excess of speeds
well over 55 mph.
At the intersection of CR374 and 45th Street, the
suspect vehicle lost control, went off the road and hit some large landscaping
rocks in a front yard at this location which stopped the vehicle. Deputies
pulled in behind the vehicle and exited, identifying ourselves with badges and
verbal commands to stop, exit and that we were police officers. The suspect
then put his car into reverse and rammed the front of the unmarked unit, and
fled again at a high rate of speed on various roads in Lawrence and Arlington

ARRESTED:
Chad Krier 20 yr old male, Gobles, MI
WARRANT INFORMATION:
Felony Warrant, out of Lansing, Tether unit for absconding.
INFORMATION: Sheriff
Dale R. Gribler reports a Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office narcotics
detective was conducting surveillance in an unrelated incident in an unmarked
police vehicle.
A vehicle known to the detective was observed behind him, near Red Arrow Hwy and
41st Street. As the detective was heading south on 41st Street, the vehicle
passed the detective at a high rate of speed
on a double yellow line. The
detective radioed for a marked police unit and requested they stop the vehicle
for the traffic violation.

K-9 Deputy Tony Evans, from the VBC Uniform Response Division, observed the
vehicle.
When the driver of the suspect
vehicle saw the deputy, he left the roadway and drove into an open field and
fled on foot. The driver was identified as Chad Krier. K-9 Deputy Evans
deployed
his K-9 partner, Goliath, and started tracking Krier through wooded areas
and corn fields. While tracking Krier, K-9 Goliath found several items that
were thrown by Krier during the foot pursuit. These items included, approx 2
grams of meth, approx 3 1/2 ounces of packaged marijuana, misc drug
paraphernalia, a digital scale, lithium batteries, plastic tubing
and coffee filters with residue.
Additional units from
the VBC Uniform Response Division, MSP Paw Paw Post, the Paw Paw Police Dept.,
along with unmarked cars from the narcotics unit and detective bureau assisted
in setting up a perimeter. As the foot pursuit continued, an additional K-9
Unit from the Michigan State Police joined in. Approximately 2 hours into the
track, a citizen called the police after spotting a suspicious person in a
wooded area. As police units were going to the area, several suspicious
vehicles in the area were stopped. The occupants of the vehicles were
questioned and were found to be in contact with Krier on cell phones to
coordinate his escape. Police were able to coordinate with these subjects to
get Krier to come out of the woods.
During this time, a Michigan State Police trooper got into the passenger
side of one of the vehicles who was on the phone with Krier and called him out
to the road. As Krier opened the passenger door of the vehicle, the trooper
went to grab Krier, who was able to pull away from the trooper and took back off
into the woods. As Krier fled on foot into the woods again, he ran behind the
house of an off duty Kalamazoo County Deputy who witnessed the event. The off
duty deputy then ran out and assisted the trooper in apprehending Krier. The
entire incident lasted approximately 3 1/2 hours.
Krier was transported

Sheriff Dale
R. Gribler reports that the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office received an
anonymous call reporting a vendor at Reits Flea Market, located at 45146 Red

Optical disc piracy is that of illegal manufacturing, sale,

including DVD, DVD-R, CD, CD-R and VCD. These illegal hard goods are sold on
websites, online auctions, via e-mail solicitation and by street vendors and
flea markets around the world. Much like downloadable media, the pirated motion
pictures in hard goods such as these confiscated DVD are usually found in
general to be poor quality recordings.
MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), along
with local law enforcement agencies in 2005, seized over 81 million illegal copy
written optical disc worldwide. Neither the owner or employees of the Flea
Market had any knowledge or responsibility of such suspected illegal activity
involving these DVD’s.
