Incident Type: Arrest of Suspects for Various Larcenies and Possession of
Drugs

Drugs Seized: An outdoor marijuana grow operation was located, along with
processed marijuana, suspected heroin, and other controlled substances located
at the scene.
Suspect Information: 1) a 31 year old male from Covert MI, (2) a 30 year old
female South Haven Resident, (3) along with a 33 year old Lacota Resident
Charges: Suspects were arrested on various charges such as larceny of scrap
metal, retail fraud over $500, manufacturing marijuana, possession of heroin,
harboring a fugitive, and parole and probation violations.
Narrative: Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that officers were investigating
a retail fraud that originated at the Walmart of South Haven. During the
investigation, suspects were identified and then sought to interview for the
crime. One of the suspects had an outstanding warrant for larceny of scrap
metal and is out on bond on other charges. During the investigation, Officers
located the suspect's vehicle occupied by one of the suspects in Covert
Township. After arresting the first suspect, officers then went to a
residence on M-140 to locate an additional
suspect. When Officers arrived, the suspects attempted to barricade the door
to prohibit entry by the police. Officers were able to make entry and located
2 suspects inside. During the search, various drugs were located inside of
the residence and later seized as evidence. Officers also observed various
marijuana plants growing in the back yard of the residence and also along side
of an adjacent building. Various stolen items were recovered during the
investigation. The suspects were lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on
various offenses. The investigation is still ongoing at the current time.

Information:
Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Jail Work
Crew were in the Covert area cleaning out drains. The sheriff's deputy
overseeing the work crew had come across some marijuana plants in a wooded area
behind a house and turned the information over to the Van Buren County Narcotics
Unit for investigation.
Narcotics detectives went to the location and found a
small clearing in a wooded area behind a residence. There, detectives
observed a large quantity of Styrofoam cups containing several seedling-starter
marijuana plants in each cup. Narcotics detectives were able to obtain a search
warrant for the residence and execute it. In the grow behind the residence,
detectives seized 725 seedling-starter marijuana plants, and found plastic one
gallon containers used to water-fertilize the plants. Detectives found plastic
starter trays on the backside of the residence along with additional Styrofoam
cups.
Inside the residence, detectives located approximately
1 gram of powder cocaine and a set of brass knuckles. A mature marijuana plant
can produce approximately $1000.00 worth of marijuana.
This incident remains under investigation and no
arrests have been made at this time. Once completed, a copy of the report will
be forwarded to the VBC Prosecutors office, requesting charges of Manufacturing
Marijuana and Possession of Cocaine.

Narcotic’s Warrant Arrests & Search Warrant.

Covert Township & City of Hartford, Van Buren County.
Information:
Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that the Van Buren County
Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, Covert Township Police Department, along with
the DEA out of Grand Rapids Michigan have conducted a long term investigation
into the sales and distribution of controlled substances in the Covert and
Hartford communities.
The investigations have resulted in the issuance of
arrest warrants for the listed suspects. The investigations were for the sale
and distribution of cocaine (“Rock”) and what was represented to be Heroin.
Another suspect was indicted by the DEA a few weeks prior and is in Federal
custody awaiting trial.
A search warrant was also executed at 520 S Center
Street Apt-B13, Hartford Michigan. This warrant was issued after the sale of
cocaine from this location. Cocaine residue, small amount of marijuana, scales,
and currency was seized from this apartment along with the arrest of BECKHAM.
All of the arrested suspects were lodged in the Van
Buren County Jail pending arraignment in the 7th District Court of Michigan. All
of the suspects have multiple delivery cases pending court action.
Pending Drug Charges:
The 23
year old female from the search warrant in Hartford was taken into custody for
delivery of cocaine and possession of marijuana. Name withheld pending
arraignment.
