Information:
Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that the Van Buren County
Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit, Covert Township Police Department, along with
the DEA out of Grand Rapids Michigan have conducted a long term investigation
into the sales and distribution of controlled substances in the Covert and
Hartford communities.
The investigations have resulted in the issuance of arrest warrants for the
listed suspects. The investigations were for the sale and distribution of
cocaine (“Rock”) and what was represented to be Heroin. Another suspect was
indicted by the DEA a few weeks prior and is in Federal custody awaiting trial.
A search warrant was also executed at 520 S Center Street Apt-B13, Hartford
Michigan. This warrant was issued after the sale of cocaine from this location.
Cocaine residue, small amount of marijuana, scales, and currency was seized from
this apartment along with the arrest of BECKHAM.
All of the arrested suspects were lodged in the Van Buren County Jail
pending arraignment in the 7th District Court of Michigan. All of the suspects
have multiple delivery cases pending court action.
Pending Drug Charges:
The 23
year old female from the search warrant in Hartford was taken into custody for
delivery of cocaine and possession of marijuana. Name withheld pending
arraignment.

Counterfeit check arrests.

19, 2009 at 11:15 a.m.
Location: National
City Bank, located at 2 South Center Street in the City of Hartford.
Suspects Arrested: 9 male
subjects providing Mexico identification cards were lodged for uttering and
publishing. Names withheld pending arraignment in South Haven district court.
Information:
On 9/19/09 at 11:15am officers of the Hartford City Police Department received
from the National City Bank, located at 2 South Center street in the city, this
in reference to subjects in the banks drive thru window area attempting to pass
what they believed to be counterfeit checks. Officers responded and made
contact with individuals in a van which had no registration plate affixed to
it. Subsequently officers learned that this vehicle, and several other vehicles
had cashed counterfeit checked in excess of $8,000.
During the investigation officers seized approximately $3,000
from the detained suspects involved in this incident. Also a check of their
persons, and vehicle, yet more counterfeit checks were discovered that had
apparently not yet been cashed.
It is believed that the suspects passed/or attempted to
counterfeit checks in both that of Van Buren and Berrien counties.
9 suspects are currently lodged in the Van Buren county
jail, all of which identified themselves with Mexico ID.

#1: 32
year old South Haven township man, subject lodged in the Van Buren County
Jail for felonious driving, possession of crack cocaine with the intent to
deliver and possession of marijuana.
#2: 20
year old South Haven township man, subject lodged in the Van Buren County Jail
for possession of crack cocaine with the intent to deliver along with
possession of marijuana.
#3: 49
year old Hartford city woman, subject lodged in the Van Buren County Jail for
possession of crack cocaine.
Evidence seized: 13.9 grams
of Crack cocaine which was individually packaged for sales along with 1.8
grams of marijuana.
Vehicle information: 2004
Pontiac Grand Prix passenger car.
Information:
Sheriff Dale R. Gribler reports that two Van Buren County Sheriff Deputies in
plain clothes, while in the process of looking for a wanted individual, had
their attention brought to what appeared to be a hand-to-hand drug transaction
in the 300 block of Bernard street. As the plain clothes deputies pulled
in behind the vehicle occupied by the two male subjects, the female outside
this car immediately put something into her waistband. The occupants,
seeing the two deputies had exited and with visible identifiers presented as
them being Law enforcement officers, the suspects floored their vehicle and
began traveling throughout varies side streets in the City of Hartford
disobeying stop signs, and traveling at speeds well in excess of 25 mph in
this highly populated residential area. It was during this time, the
suspects in the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix threw from their car two baggies of
what was later discovered to be individually packaged crack cocaine and
marijuana which was collected by officers.
Due to the reckless driving of the suspect vehicle, the
plain clothes deputies lost sight of the suspects. Shortly after
deputies lost sight of this vehicle, Hartford City police and Troopers from
the Michigan State Police discovered it southbound on Center street near I-94,
where they were stopped and taken into custody without further incident.
The female suspect was also found to have 1.7 grams of crack cocaine on her
person, to which she had purchased from the two South Haven township men.
The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit also came to the scene
and are assisting deputies with following up on this narcotics violation.

out of Hartford cited and release for Driving on an Expired License.
Vehicle:
1995 Ford Crown Victoria.
Information:
Sheriff
Dale R. Gribler reports that Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Main
Street near Austin Street in the City of Hartford on August 30th, 2009 at
approximately 1:30 a.m.
Upon making contact with the driver, it was discovered that she did not
have a valid license. Further investigation ensued and Deputies observed open
containers of beer in the rear seat that were in the possession of two Hispanic
males. Deputies arrested the two male subjects for possession of open
intoxicants in a motor vehicle. Subsequent to the arrest, deputies searched the
subjects and located a plastic baggie in the pocket of one of the subjects that
was field tested and discovered to be marijuana.
Both subjects were lodged at the Van Buren County Jail for the above
offenses.
